Summary

D-wave quantum annealers are a new class of computational devices that can solve certain optimization problems much faster than classical computers. In this presentation, we explore the potential of using a D-Wave quantum annealer for hydrologic inverse analyses, which are used to estimate model parameters from observed data. We discuss the challenges and opportunities of using quantum annealing for this purpose, and we present preliminary results from applying this approach to a hydrologic inverse problem.
